CHRISTMAS TIME AT LEISURE LAKES

It’s Christmas time, and at Leisure Lakes that means beautiful decorations, both in, and outside the church building.  It also means special treats, and even breakfast served before Sunday school.  It’s the time for the annual women’s Christmas tea, special concerts, and the Christmas eve candle light service.  It’s a wonderful time of the year.

The Christmas season also means church attendance is up, and yes, you do have to come early for a back row seat.  What makes it so special?  Why are many churches across our world experiencing the same excitement that we are?  The answer is, of course, found in the Christ of Christmas.  It is all because of the one whose birthday we celebrate, the Lord Jesus.

Before God made the world and put people here he already knew our first parents would choose sin, that is, disobedience to His laws, precepts, and ways.  But it is not just them, it is us as well.  All of us have sinned and come short of God’s standard.  And the Bible says that the wages of sin is death, that is, eternal separation from God.

Christmas was part of God’s plan from the beginning.  He, the creator, would come to earth, live among us, be one of us, though sinless. And, He would offer Himself as our substitute, our sacrifice for our sin, by going to the cross in our behalf.  What love, what a Creator, what a God! 

Christmas reminds us that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  Mary Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
